Dr. Toku Ito presented on considerations for aging EFM solutions.
TOKU Systems was pleased to have been selected to present at the 2025 Saskatchewan School of Hydrocarbon Measurement. Dr. Toku Ito, who developed the first Software-as-a-Service EFM device for the energy industry, presented on considerations for aging EFM solutions.
Dr. Ito highlighted issues that measurement experts need to be cognizant of as integrated EFM devices age. These devices have a theoretical and practical life cycle that need to be addressed—especially when the gas asset is of lower value and counting every penny matters. Dr. Ito also spoke about new sensor technologies we are seeing today and future emerging technologies. These new technologies will bring greater accuracy and allow for remote variation of resolution and sampling speed. With more precise data, more sophisticated processing of that data will be possible—through machine learning and artificial intelligence—to determine how a well is performing.
The 2025 Saskatchewan School of Hydrocarbon Measurement took place May 7, 2025 in Estevan, Saskatchewan (after being rescheduled from November 2024 due to severe weather). The objective of the School is to offer educational guidance in technical domains within the petroleum and natural gas sector.
